Virunga Lodge

Virunga Lodge is the premier luxury accommodation in Rwanda, perched high on a stunning ridge that offers jaw-dropping views of the Virunga Volcanoes, the Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera, the lush Musanze Valley, and the surrounding local communities. Since its opening in 2004, this elegant property has redefined Rwanda’s Afro-chic accommodation and was built by Praveen Moman.

The timeless, hand-crafted design of Virunga Lodge has always made it the first choice for visitors planning to undertake gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking, volcano hikes, and visits to the Dian Fossey Gravesite within Volcanoes National Park. Guests here experience out-of-this-world hospitality, delicious organic and locally inspired cuisine, the services of a private butler, and a secluded, serene location.

Virunga Lodge Bandas and Amenities
Virunga Lodge features 10 elegant Bandas, each with a private terrace offering spectacular views of the Virunga Volcanoes, the Twin Lakes, the lush Musanze Valley, and surrounding landscapes. Of these, 4 are Deluxe Bandas, offering private suites, while the rest are Standard Bandas. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the lodge, and a personal butler service is provided for all guests. Each Banda is equipped with central fireplaces, en-suite bathrooms with double sink vanities, eco-friendly flushing toilets, showers with hot/cold running water, power sockets/charging facilities, hair dryers, and spacious sitting areas for relaxation.

Other Virunga Lodge Facilities and Services

The lodge’s outstanding hospitality is complemented by organic, locally inspired food. Full-board accommodation includes soft drinks and house drinks such as cocktails, wines, and single malt whisky, with premium drinks like French Champagne available for an additional charge.

The Dian Fossey Map Room, established in 2017 in honor of American primatologist Dian Fossey, is available for conservation lectures and provides a unique space to learn more about her 18-year dedication to studying and protecting mountain gorillas.

Complimentary laundry services are also available to guests during their stay.

Lodge and National Park Activities
Guests of Virunga Lodge can enjoy a variety of lodge activities, including tours of the solar power project, Intore dance performances, the VSPT “one-sheep-per-family” project, and the Water Tank Project, among others.
